Acid-laden truck catches fire on Northern Marmara Motorway

The cab of a truck loaded with phosphoric acid caught fire on the Kocaeli section of the Northern Marmara Motorway. While the fire was extinguished by firefighting crews, toxic gas spread to the surrounding area.

A truck with license plate 46 ADK 114, driven by I.N., caught fire for an unknown reason while passing through the Yağcılar location of the Northern Marmara Motorway in Dilovası District.

According to the information obtained, a fire broke out in the cab of the truck, which was loaded with phosphoric acid and traveling in the direction of Ankara. The driver, noticing the flames, pulled the truck onto the emergency lane and reported the incident to the 112 Emergency Call Center.

Upon the report, the Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality Dilovası Fire Department Group Command, as well as health and gendarmerie teams, were dispatched to the scene. The fire was extinguished through the intervention of the firefighting crews.

ONLY A PILE OF IRON REMAINED

On the other hand, the toxic gas that spread to the surrounding area was neutralized through the efforts of the firefighting crews. Due to the fire, only a pile of iron remained of the truck's cab. While two lanes of the motorway were closed to traffic, controlled passage was provided through a single lane by gendarmerie teams.

The gendarmerie teams took the statement of the driver, I.N., and launched an investigation into the fire.
