Action taken over Öcalan slogans in Parliament

Reactions continue regarding the slogans chanted in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) in favor of Abdullah Öcalan, the leader of the terrorist organization PKK, prior to the DEM Party's parliamentary group meeting.

According to ANKA, Lawyer Paşa Büyükkayaer, registered with the Ankara Bar Association, has filed a criminal complaint with the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office against those who chanted slogans in favor of Öcalan, on charges of “engaging in terrorist organization propaganda” and “praising a crime and a criminal.”

CRIMINAL COMPLAINT AGAINST “BİJİ SEROK APO” SLOGAN

Drawing attention to the incident that took place on October 7, 2025, in his petition, Büyükkayaer alleged that PKK sympathizers were invited to the DEM Party's group meeting and stated the following:

"What happened in the TBMM, which represents the founding will of the Republic of Turkey and the sovereign rights of the Turkish Nation, is known to the public. During the weekly regular group meeting of the DEM Party, which also has a group in Parliament, the slogan 'Biji serok apo' was chanted by PKK terrorist organization sympathizers. The Turkish equivalent of the slogan 'Biji serok apo,' which was chanted in a language other than Turkish, is 'Long live President Apo.' The person referred to as Apo in the expression in question is the so-called leader of the baby-killer PKK and is a common criminal and murderer whose guilt has been established by the Turkish judiciary. The actions of the suspect individuals present in the hall in question constitute the crime of 'praising a crime and a criminal' under Article 215 of the Turkish Penal Code (TCK), and the crime of 'engaging in organization propaganda' regulated under Article 7/2 of the Anti-Terror Law and Article 220/8 of the TCK."

“THE ACT IS AN ATTACK ON SOVEREIGN RIGHTS”

Büyükkayaer requested that the individuals who entered the TBMM with identity registration be identified and that camera footage be examined. Arguing that the act was “a clear attack on the sovereign rights of the Turkish Nation,” he used the following expressions:

"The actions of the suspects, which contain treason and separatism, cannot be legitimized by being labeled as democracy or freedom of expression. In such a period, it is the primary duty of every member of the Turkish Nation to fight against any act directed at the unity and solidarity of the Turkish Nation and the founding principles of the republic. Protecting the unity and solidarity of the Turkish Nation and the Turkish State is not only a legal necessity but also a historical responsibility. We demand that the requirements of the supreme Turkish justice be met and that the historical responsibility toward the Turkish Nation be fulfilled by identifying the suspect individuals and filing a public lawsuit against them so that they may be punished for the alleged crimes."
