The Sındırgı district of Balıkesir was shaken by a 6.1 magnitude earthquake at 19:53. The Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) stated that the earthquake occurred at a depth of 11 kilometers and that the settlement closest to the epicenter was Alacaatlı Village.
Following the earthquake, a total of 41 aftershocks ranging in magnitude from 2.2 to 4.6 were recorded until 21:46. In the preliminary assessment report published by AFAD, the intensity map created using the Earthquake Pre-Damage System (AFAD-RED) was also shared with the public.
According to the earthquake map, the tremor was felt at an intensity of 8 in Sındırgı, while destructive, very strong (7), strong (6), and quite strong (5) intensity effects were observed in the vicinity of Balıkesir and Manisa. These data indicate that structures and infrastructure in the region could be seriously affected.
