Affecting millions seeking a driver's license: Major change to driving tests is on the horizon

The Ombudsman Institution (KDK) has brought an important issue raised by employees planning to obtain a driver's license to the agenda with a new recommendation decision. Many driver candidates stated that they have difficulty getting time off from their workplaces for the exam and requested that exam sessions be moved to evening hours. Following the review conducted by the KDK, an official proposal was submitted to the Ministry of National Education regarding the implementation of flexibility in exam schedules.

Currently, driving tests are held during specific daytime blocks, and working driver candidates could face difficulties regarding leave. Within the scope of the new proposal, it was stated that driving tests could also be organized in the evening hours, provided that sufficient lighting and security measures are ensured on the test tracks. In this way, working citizens will be able to take the driving test without having to leave their workplaces.

The KDK's recommendation attracted the attention of not only driver candidates but also driving school operators. Sector representatives are of the opinion that the change could balance the weekend density at schools and allow more candidates to take the exam at convenient times.

The Ministry of National Education is expected to integrate the KDK's proposal into the driving school regulations in the coming period and reorganize the exam schedule. With the regulation coming into effect, the practical phase of obtaining a driver's license will become much more accessible for employees.
