It has emerged that the meatball chain owned by the family of AKP MP Mestan Özcan, who claimed he could not make ends meet with his MP and pension salaries, declared earnings of approximately 50 million TL over the last two years.

The statement made by AKP Tekirdağ MP Mestan Özcan regarding his salaries during a meeting with members of the press in Çorlu has sparked public debate.
Özcan expressed that he struggles to maintain his lifestyle with the approximately 500 thousand lira he receives in total monthly as an MP and a retired MP, drawing attention with his words: "Let me put it this way; I will give you my pension and my MP salary, and you come and try to manage with them for a month. They raised the prices of all the food in Parliament! We are eating at higher prices because of you. They raised them five times."
While these remarks triggered significant backlash, particularly on social media, information regarding the substantial earnings of the meatball chain owned by the Özcan family has been brought to the agenda.
According to tax records, Özcanlar Köfte Sanayi ve Ticaret Anonim Şirketi, which is managed by the Özcan family, declared earnings of 85 thousand 198 TL in 2022; this figure reached 30 million 984 thousand 411 TL in 2023 and 18 million 279 thousand 369 TL in 2024. Thus, the company's total declared earnings over two years rose to 49 million 263 thousand 780 TL.
The company's tax burden during the same period also drew attention. The company, which paid 19 thousand 595 TL in taxes in 2022, paid 6 million 367 thousand TL in 2023 and 3 million 581 thousand TL in 2024. These data highlighted the sharp increase in the company's income.
In the debate sparked by MP Özcan's statements, public attention is now focused on both the economic conditions of politicians and their activities in the business world.
