While candidates continue their work for the local elections to be held in March, promises in Istanbul are particularly focused on earthquakes.

As candidates attempt to make concrete proposals and promises regarding what can be done about the major earthquake awaiting Istanbul, an interesting statement came from the AKP candidate, Murat Kurum.

Kurum announced that he would build 650 thousand new housing units in Istanbul within 5 years.

Following this promise, some circles reacted to Kurum's statement. Prof. Dr. Övgün Ahmet Ercan was among those who reacted to Murat Kurum's housing promise.

In a post on his social media account, Ercan stated that there is no space left in Istanbul to build new housing and pointed out that these homes should be built for the victims in the earthquake zone.

Here is that post by Ercan:

Murat Kurum, my dear brother, you say you will build 650 thousand homes in Istanbul. There is no space left in Istanbul other than the forests. Please build the homes you are going to build for the victims in the earthquake zone whom you promised but failed to build for, and we will applaud you.
