Halk TV Editor-in-Chief Suat Toktaş has been arrested as part of an 'expert witness investigation'.

Toktaş's arrest drew a reaction from Hürriyet Editor-in-Chief Ahmet Hakan, who is known for his proximity to the government.

Calling for Toktaş's release, Hakan stated the following:

"I do not know Halk TV Editor-in-Chief Suat Toktaş. Our paths have never crossed. I have no acquaintance with him. So, I am not writing this out of a motivation of friendship. Even though I do not find it right that Suat Toktaş published an unauthorized audio recording... I object to him being tried while under arrest. The suspicion of flight, the suspicion of tampering with evidence, and so on... None of these seem convincing to me. Suat Toktaş should be released. Like the other names, he should be tried without arrest."
