Ahmet Hakan targets Metin Akpınar: Take care of your own children first, man

Veteran artist Metin Akpınar was a guest yesterday (December 17) on the program Görkemli Hatıralar (Magnificent Memories), prepared and hosted by Serhan Asker on Halk TV.

Hürriyet Editor-in-Chief Ahmet Hakan, known for his proximity to the government, targeted Akpınar over his twin daughters who emerged years later.

Reacting to Metin Akpınar's statements regarding education, Hakan said, "Stop pontificating about education and humanity, and take care of your own children first, man."

Hakan used the following expressions in his column:

"I saw Metin Akpınar on Halk TV yesterday. He was being made to speak like a sage of sages. He was passing grand judgments on humanity. He was saying that education is essential. If by education he means being well-informed... Metin Akpınar has problems when it comes to being well-informed. For example, he doesn't know that Rousseau was an 18th-century thinker. But is education just about being well-informed? Does it not affect a person's view of the world, events, and people at all? Education may not be able to teach compassion or love. But can it not teach the respect due to a young person waiting to be accepted by their father? What you call education... Can it not make a person grasp that building marital happiness on a big lie is an injustice to all parties involved? Shouldn't education instill values like honesty, justice, and dignity beyond dry information? And if it doesn't instill any of those... Can education at least not teach one to be a little embarrassed and stay silent? Anyway... I'd better call out to Metin Akpınar without any more chatter: Stop pontificating about education and humanity, and take care of your own children first, man."
