Ahmet Özer evaluates his party's 'Imrali' decision: CHP must be involved

Esenyurt Mayor Ahmet Özer, who was released in recent weeks after a year of detention, evaluated his party's 'Imrali decision' by stating, "It is important for the CHP to be involved in this process, but not going to the island does not mean not supporting the process."

Touching upon the investigations into CHP-run municipalities during a broadcast he joined on Halk TV, Özer recalled that in his first interview after his arrest, he had mentioned that the investigation would not be limited to himself.

Stating that the appointment of trustees should be shelved along with the new "solution process," Özer also said that they have applied to the Constitutional Court for the removal of the trustee in Esenyurt.

'THIS HAS NO PARTY'

Özer also responded to criticisms regarding the CHP "not going to Imrali Island."

Ahmet Özer assessed, "There is no need to escalate this; the CHP must definitely be involved in this matter; not going to Imrali does not mean not supporting the process."

Stating, "I am being tried in the City Consensus case; we are not outside of these matters. Everyone needs to take responsibility for the resolution of a 40-50-year-old problem," Özer said the following:

"This is a matter that is above politics, concerns the entire country, and concerns the future of society. This does not have a party affiliation.

This is not just a matter for Kurds; it is a matter for the 86 million living in Turkey, and there is already no problem between Kurds and Turks. 

We fought together against Byzantium in Malazgirt in 1071. We struggled together in Chaldiran in 1514. We were together in Erzincan in 1891."
