Esenyurt Mayor Ahmet Özer, who was arrested following a terrorism investigation launched against him and for whom a trustee was appointed in his place, has filed an individual application to the Constitutional Court (AYM).

Hüseyin Ersöz, one of Özer's lawyers, used the expressions, "We have filed an application primarily regarding the violation of the right to liberty and the right to a fair trial."

Speaking to 12punto, Ersöz said the following:

"Today, we carried out an individual application to the Constitutional Court regarding Ahmet Özer. It was primarily related to the violation of the right to liberty and the right to a fair trial. We emphasized that there is no strong suspicion of a crime to justify the continuation of detention. We conveyed that the prosecutor's office is engaged in a diversion of authority and that the process is continuing with political motives. We have requested a priority review from the Constitutional Court. We want a violation ruling to be issued regarding our individual application as soon as possible and, at the same time, for the violation of liberty to be ended."
