Within the scope of an investigation launched by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, 27 people, including Beyoğlu Mayor İnan Güney, were arrested on charges of "being a member of an organization established for the purpose of committing crimes" and "fraud to the detriment of public institutions and organizations."
Among those arrested, in addition to Güney, are his Chief of Staff Seyhan Özcan, his brother-in-law İsmail Akkaya, his driver Deniz Göleli, as well as İmamoğlu's driver Recep Cebeci, İBB Medya AŞ Chairman Murat Ongun's relative İbrahim Can Yaman, and Mahir Gün, the user of the Ekrem Edit account.
The 27 other individuals detained as part of the investigation were released under judicial control measures, including a travel ban.
Imprisoned Esenyurt Mayor Ahmet Özer also reacted to Güney's arrest.
In a post shared on Özer's social media account, it was stated: "While a peace process is being conducted on one hand, continuing political operations, arresting elected mayors and municipal employees, and targeting families does not serve peace. Because it is not possible to establish peace without law and democracy. I convey my best wishes to our Beyoğlu Mayor İnan Güney."
