Ahmet Şık claims 'trustee to be appointed to IMM': 'İmamoğlu will be removed from office'

Evaluating the current investigations and detentions as a 'new Ergenekon process,' Workers' Party of Turkey (TİP) MP Ahmet Şık stated, "They will remove İmamoğlu from office and appoint a trustee to the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM)."

In Turkey, in addition to the investigations launched against municipalities managed by the opposition in recent days, investigations have also begun to be opened one after another against individuals who criticize the government.

Most recently, 53 people were detained as part of HDK operations.

Workers' Party of Turkey (TİP) MP Ahmet Şık made evaluations regarding the latest developments on the agenda.

Speaking to Furkan Karabay from Duvar, Şık responded to the question, "Before the HDK operations, a new Gezi file was put before us along with Ayşe Barım. Where do you think these operations will ultimately end?" as follows:

"With the arrest of Ayşe Barım, they will most likely link the Gezi resistance, which has been put back into circulation as a tool for polarization, to the HDK investigation. By combining that with the urban consensus model, they will remove İmamoğlu from office and appoint a trustee to the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality.

The pretext for Ekrem İmamoğlu's removal from office will have been prepared through these chains of investigations linked to one another, just as in the Ergenekon process. In this way, İmamoğlu, who is seen as Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's biggest rival in the presidential election, will not only be pushed out of the game. By labeling the urban consensus that brought the AKP its local election failure as 'terrorist' activity, they will make right-wing voters who voted for the CHP question their choices."
