Ahmet Yavuz criticizes Hüseyin Çelik's remarks

Retired Major General Ahmet Yavuz has reacted to a social media post by former Minister of National Education Hüseyin Çelik.

Retired Major General Ahmet Yavuz, who was arrested as part of the Balyoz (Sledgehammer) investigation while serving as the Commander of the Army War College with the rank of Major General, and who was later acquitted following a retrial after the Constitutional Court overturned the verdict, has reacted sharply to a social media post by Hüseyin Çelik.

As the events unfolding between the Court of Cassation and the Constitutional Court dominated Turkey's agenda, former Minister of National Education Hüseyin Çelik, like many other politicians, issued a statement.

In his social media post, Çelik stated: "For years, we suffered from the Kemalist militant judiciary, led by the likes of Vural Savaş, Sabih Kanadoğlu, Yekta Güngör Özden, Nuh Mete Yüksel, and their ilk, under the guidance of tutelary powers. Just when we thought the tutelage had been lifted, we have now created our own militant judiciary. Good for us!!! In a country with this judiciary and this mentality, we also stand tall against the criticisms of the EU. It is high time we faced ourselves in the mirror. What does it matter if it is the 1000th year of the Republic instead of the 100th? Once the Republic ceases to be a Republic, what is the importance of its age... Let us not forget that Syria, Iran, Iraq, Libya, North Korea, China, Russia, Cuba, and Venezuela are also Republics...."

Reacting to the post, retired general Ahmet Yavuz criticized Çelik's words, saying: "Look at the arrogance! Instead of showing the virtue of saying 'the mistake is ours from start to finish,' he embraces what they did with the community/FETÖ; he covers up the fact that they paved the way for these days back then! Cunning fox!"
