AKP Bursa Deputy Mustafa Varank accused Lieutenant Ebru Eroğlu and Lieutenant İzzet Talip Akarsu, who chanted the slogan "We are the soldiers of Mustafa Kemal" at the Military Academy graduation ceremony, of indiscipline.
"Being a military cadet does not give anyone the freedom to be undisciplined or commit crimes!" said Varank, comparing the lieutenants to the 'FETÖ members' who played a role in the July 15 coup attempt.

The 150 generals who martyred 251 patriots on July 15 and were expelled from our heroic army were also graduates of the military academy...
Retired Military Judge Ahmet Zeki Üçok reacted to Varank's words.
In a post on his X account, Üçok stated the following:
“Dear Mustafa Varank @varank, all of the 150 generals who martyred 251 patriots on July 15 and were expelled from our heroic army;
are generals and admirals who were promoted with the vote and approval of Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who served as Prime Minister and Chairman of the Supreme Military Council between 2011 and 2015.
Being an AK Party member does not give anyone the freedom to make FETÖ member soldiers generals/admirals.
Please stop talking nonsense…”
