According to information obtained from diplomatic sources, two firefighting aircraft and one helicopter sent by Turkey to support Greece in its fight against wildfires have arrived at Athens International Airport in the capital.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Turkey had offered assistance to Greece due to the wildfires that began in Varnava, near the capital Athens, and spread to various parts of Attica due to strong winds.
According to diplomatic sources, Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan had conveyed the message to the Athens administration that Turkey was ready to assist Greece within the framework of good neighborly relations.
The Greek side had stated that they would evaluate the offer and request support from Turkey if necessary.
Sources had pointed out that the fact that there are currently no major ongoing wildfires in Turkey allowed for the offer of assistance to be made to Greece.
It had been reported that Turkey had initiated efforts to send two firefighting aircraft and one helicopter to support Greece in its fight against the wildfires.
