An investigation has been launched into Akçakoca Mayor Fikret Albayrak on charges of "extortion." Within the scope of this investigation initiated by the Düzce Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, Mayor Albayrak was apprehended and detained by security forces in Afyonkarahisar. It was learned that during the same process, searches were also conducted at Albayrak’s residence and at municipal subsidiaries.

According to the allegations, an investigation was launched following complaints that Albayrak demanded money from citizens regarding certain construction procedures. In 2023, an individual identified as E.Ö. claimed that for the occupancy permit of a property for which his application was pending, Albayrak demanded 2.5 million liras from him through his father, H.Ö. E.Ö. stated that he provided a check following this demand and received a partial occupancy permit for his construction, and subsequently filed a complaint with the prosecutor's office.

Another complainant, H.P., alleged in a similar manner that his construction was halted, and that Albayrak demanded 1 million liras from him through his employee F.Ç.; however, he claimed that construction activities were not allowed to continue because he did not meet the demand. In addition to these complaints, it was stated that there are other complaints of a similar nature.

Following the initiation of the investigation, a detention order was issued for Mayor Albayrak. While it was thought that Albayrak was in Antalya, he was apprehended in Afyonkarahisar. It was learned that the judicial process regarding the incident is ongoing.
