AKOM issues warning with specific dates: Snow is coming to Istanbul!

The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB) Disaster Coordination Center (AKOM) announced that cold and rainy weather arriving from the Balkans is expected to affect Istanbul over the weekend. It was stated that the precipitation, which will appear as rain on Saturday, is expected to turn into sleet on Sunday and snow starting from the evening hours. It was also noted that local heavy snowfall could occur until noon on Monday.

According to data from AKOM, which is affiliated with the IBB, Istanbul began the day with partly cloudy skies and temperatures hovering around 5 degrees Celsius.

Cold and rainy weather arriving from the Balkans is expected to affect the Marmara Region, particularly Istanbul, over the weekend.

Temperatures, which are already below seasonal norms, are expected to drop by another 2-4 degrees, falling to winter levels, with precipitation expected across the province.

The precipitation, which will appear as rain on Saturday, is expected to turn into sleet on Sunday and snow starting from the evening hours.

It is anticipated that local heavy snowfall could occur until noon on Monday.

In Istanbul, temperatures are expected to remain 2-5 degrees below seasonal norms until January 31, and to hover around or 1-3 degrees above seasonal norms between February 1 and February 10.
