AKP and CHP's daycare debate continues: 'You are uncomfortable because we are providing what you could not give to children'

A daycare debate took place in Parliament between the ruling party and the opposition. While AK Party Group Chairman Leyla Şahin Usta stated that education is being provided in daycares opened without permission due to inadequate physical conditions, CHP Group Deputy Chairman Ali Mahir Başarır said, "We are doing what you do not. We are providing what you could not give to children. You are uncomfortable with this."

According to the news in GerçekGündem, the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) General Assembly opened under the chairmanship of Deputy Speaker Bekir Bozdağ.

At the opening, Bozdağ gave the floor to some deputies who requested it. Then, before moving on to the proposals of the political party groups, Bozdağ gave the floor to the group deputy chairmen regarding the agenda.

"NOT EVEN ONE CHILD'S NOSE HAS BLED"

Meanwhile, CHP Group Deputy Chairman Ali Mahir Başarır, who gave a speech, touched upon the debate that has been ongoing for some time regarding the daycares opened by municipalities.

Stating that the opposition is doing what the government is not, Başarır said the following:

"We have opened 653 daycares, 105 of which were opened by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB). Thank God, not even one child's nose has bled. Children are given 4 meals a day. Families are happy. There is an official waiting at the head of each one. You are the ones who are unhappy. Because the palace is uncomfortable, the ministers are uncomfortable. We are doing what you cannot. You cannot provide bread, pencils, milk, or food to children. Our municipalities are providing them, and you are uncomfortable with this."

"YOU ARE UNAWARE OF EACH OTHER"

Meanwhile, DEM Group Deputy Chairman Sezai Temelli, who took the floor, stated that the government is taking such steps on the grounds that education in the mother tongue is provided in the daycares opened by municipalities, and said, "The Ministry of Environment refuted you. The Ministry of Environment is passing the buck to the Ministry of National Education, saying, 'We did not write such a letter.' You are not even aware of each other."

Following these speeches, AK Party Group Chairman Leyla Şahin Usta, who came to the podium, reminded that the Constitutional Court (AYM) had canceled the authority of local administrations to open daycares upon the application of the CHP, and said the following:

"No one is uncomfortable with the daycares that have been opened. But we oppose the provision of education in places opened under the name of daycare that do not have suitable physical conditions and do not have the permission of the Ministry of National Education."
