Miraç Bozkurt, who served as an AKP municipal council member in the Karkamış district of Gaziantep, has announced his resignation from the party to the public.
According to a report by Sözcü, Bozkurt emphasized that he had fought to protect the public's interests during his time in the council, stating that the irregular transactions and corruption he encountered at the municipality had reached unacceptable levels.
Describing his decision to resign as a personal stance, Bozkurt stated that he was acting out of a moral obligation rather than political calculation. He noted that he would continue his duties as a council member as an independent, rather than under the umbrella of a political party.
“REMAINING SILENT WOULD HAVE BEEN A BETRAYAL OF THE VALUES I BELIEVE IN”
In a written statement, Miraç Bozkurt justified his resignation with the following words:
"Throughout my term, I have endeavored to fulfill my responsibilities to our people and our municipality within the framework of transparency, honesty, and conscience. However, the irregular stream tenders and various cases of corruption I have encountered are not becoming of me, the family I represent, or my Kürdülü tribe. Remaining silent, ignoring, or staying quiet in such an environment is not only inconsistent with the values I believe in, but would also be disrespectful to the deep-rooted family and tribe to which I belong."
In his statement, Bozkurt underscored that he would not be joining another political party and said he would continue his duties as a council member as an independent.
