Future Party leader Ahmet Davutoğlu, who has recently been sending moderate messages toward AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, gave a green light to the AKP during a recent TV program, stating, "I know and understand the state. If I am told, 'The state is in a tight spot, the country's economy is at the point of bankruptcy. Come, let's restore this state,' I would not hesitate."
Davutoğlu's remarks drew a reaction from the Saadet Party, a partner in the New Way Group. Saadet Party Kayseri Provincial Chairman Erdal Altun criticized Davutoğlu in a statement:
"We hear it often these days: 'If they call, I will come.' Mr. Davutoğlu, what kind of longing is this, what kind of loyalty is this? He's practically saying, 'I'm waiting at the door!' He is one step away from saying, 'Just call me and I'll come.' Politics is not conducted with such personal grievances or such emotional appeals. You once said 'New Turkey,' now you are singing the song of 'Old Friends.' The political stage is not an album of memories. If you want to fix this country in its difficult situation, first take ownership of your organizations, then fix the country. Being on the opposition side while constantly winking at the ruling power is a clear disrespect to this nation and to the people you walk the path with."
Continuing his speech, Altun stated that the Saadet Party would maintain its principled stance in politics, adding, "Our measure is not individuals, but principles. The Saadet Party conducts politics on the axis of justice, not interest. We will continue to share in our nation's troubles, speak the truth, and produce solutions."
