AKP files lawsuit over lost Bayrampaşa Municipality: 'Will has been usurped'

After CHP candidate İbrahim Kahraman and AKP's İbrahim Akın received an equal number of votes in all 4 rounds of the election, a draw was held, resulting in CHP candidate Kahraman becoming the Acting Mayor of Bayrampaşa. Having lost the draw, the AKP has applied to the court to request an annulment.

The AKP, which lost the Bayrampaşa Acting Mayor election despite 4 council members resigning from the CHP, has applied to the court, claiming that "the will of the people has been usurped."

Following the arrest and suspension of Mayor Hasan Mutlu, the election for the Acting Mayor of Bayrampaşa was determined by a draw.

In the draw held after the equal votes received in the elections, CHP candidate Kahraman became the Acting Mayor of Bayrampaşa.

AKP TAKES ELECTION RESULT TO COURT

According to the report on Halktv, the AKP took the elections held on September 21 to court.

In a statement made at the AKP Istanbul Provincial Presidency, it was stated that the will of the members elected by the people had been usurped, and the following was included:

"We have initiated legal proceedings against the mentality that ignores and usurps the will of our council members elected by the people in the Acting Mayor election held in the Bayrampaşa Municipal Council.

We have filed a lawsuit with a request for a stay of execution for the annulment of this process, in which the will entrusted by our nation is disregarded. Respectfully submitted to the public."
