AKP founder and former minister Hüseyin Çelik reacts to the Court of Cassation

The 3rd Criminal Chamber of the Court of Cassation has ruled not to comply with the Constitutional Court's decision regarding TİP Hatay MP Can Atalay, a Gezi prisoner, which stated that his rights to "the right to be elected" and "personal liberty and security" had been violated. The Chamber filed a criminal complaint against the Constitutional Court members who voted in favor of the violation decision, accusing them of "judicial activism."

This move by the Court of Cassation has also caused reactions within the AKP.

"WE HAVE CREATED OUR OWN MILITANT JUDICIARY"

Most recently, AKP founder and former minister Hüseyin Çelik reacted sharply to the Court of Cassation's move against the Constitutional Court on his X (Twitter) account.

Former AKP minister Çelik pointed to the 3rd Criminal Chamber of the Court of Cassation and said, "Just when we thought the tutelage had been lifted, this time we have created our own militant judiciary."

Çelik stated the following:

"For years, we suffered from the Kemalist militant judiciary under the guidance of tutelary forces, led by the likes of Vural Savaş, Sabih Kanadoğlu, Yekta Güngör Özden, Nuh Mete Yüksel, and their ilk. Just when we thought the tutelage had been lifted, this time we have created our own militant judiciary. Good for us! In a country with this judiciary and this mentality, we also stand up and act defiantly against the criticisms of the EU. The time to face ourselves in the mirror has come and gone. What does it matter if it is the 100th year of the Republic or the 1000th year? If the Republic is not a Republic, what is the importance of its age... Let us not forget that Syria, Iran, Iraq, Libya, North Korea, China, Russia, Cuba, and Venezuela are also Republics."
