Following the member meetings held by the AKP Şişli District Presidency at Halide Edip Adıvar Primary School and Kuvayı Milliye Primary School, CHP Şişli District Chair Canercan Kartal issued a written statement.
Kartal stated that after taking office, Şişli Mayor Resul Emrah Şahan established a School Cleaning Department to provide cleaning support to schools, but the District Directorate of National Education did not permit this, and said the following:
"Our Şişli Mayor, Resul Emrah Şahan, established the School Cleaning Department as soon as he took office. He wanted to provide cleaning support to schools so that our children could study in healthier conditions. The District Directorate of National Education did not allow this.
But it is clear that when it comes to the ruling party's political propaganda, that same sensitivity disappears. Political party meetings were held at Halide Edip Adıvar Primary School and Kuvayı Milliye Primary School in our district. This is unacceptable."
"REGULATIONS DO NOT PERMIT THIS"
Stating that the Ministry of National Education's regulations clearly define the intended use of schools, Kartal expressed the following:
"The Ministry of National Education's own regulations are clear. Schools are for education, training, cultural, and sports activities. They cannot be allocated for political parties' meetings, promotional, or propaganda activities. The only exception is the use of schools as polling stations by YSK decision during election periods. This is not a party activity, but an official election process conducted by the state."
"RULES MUST BE APPLIED EQUALLY TO EVERYONE"
In the continuation of his statement, Kartal expressed that different practices create a double standard and noted the following:
"It is a double standard for the mentality that blocks our Mayor Resul Emrah Şahan's service to children to suspend the law in the face of political propaganda.
Rules must be applied equally to everyone.
Schools belong to the children. State institutions must also act on behalf of the nation and within the law, not for any political party."
