Immediately after AKP IMM candidate Murat Kurum's statement regarding the Kanal Istanbul project that “We have other priorities,” an admission came from Istanbul Provincial Chair Osman Nuri Kabaktepe that “the process regarding the Kanal Istanbul project is ongoing.”
Kabaktepe said that the process regarding the project is continuing in response to a question about Kanal Istanbul.
AKP Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality mayoral candidate Murat Kurum had said in a program he attended yesterday that if AKP Chairman and President Tayyip Erdoğan were to make a request of him regarding Kanal Istanbul, he would oppose it by saying, “We have other priorities.”
However, AKP Provincial Chair Kabaktepe stated that this process is being carried out at the ministry level.
Kabaktepe's response to the question is as follows:
“Kanal Istanbul is currently not an IMM project as Mr. Murat also expressed during the local election process, but there is a project of our ministry called Kanal Istanbul. Announcements are being made regarding this, and regulations are being made. That process is a process that is proceeding within its own context.
Since the Kanal Istanbul process is currently progressing independently, we are not talking about a simple project, but a major project. Its study also takes a very long time. There are situations that concern many independent property owners. Therefore, it is a process that is proceeding within its own context.”
