AKP's Ayaydın responds after being seen laughing at martyr's funeral: 'A joke was made'

The body of Air Aircraft Maintenance Petty Officer Chief Sergeant Emrah Kuran was laid to rest yesterday following a funeral prayer at the mosque in the Ekinanbarı neighborhood of Milas. Victory Party Deputy Chairman Fatih Eryılmaz alleged in a video he shared that AKP member Aydın Ayaydın was laughing during the ceremony. AKP's Ayaydın has issued a statement regarding the footage that drew backlash.

Following the circulation of the footage on social media and the subsequent backlash, Aydın Ayaydın, who was alleged to have laughed during the funeral prayer, has issued a statement.

Ayaydın stated, "A joke was made regarding the heart surgery I underwent, and I responded with an involuntary smile."

Ayaydın, who made a statement on his social media account, used the following expressions:

"Following the major heart surgery I underwent, I wanted to attend the funeral ceremony of our martyr from Milas, Emrah Kuran, despite my doctor's orders. This was the first time I had been out in public after a long break. After meeting our martyr at the airport, I participated in the ceremony at the Garrison. After conveying my condolences to our martyr's precious mother and father, I went to the mosque where the funeral prayer would be held about 45 minutes before the call to prayer.

While I was waiting for the prayer and greeting some political figures who were with me, a joke was made to me saying, 'Now that you have renewed your heart, it will be even harder to deal with you in the field.' I responded to these words with an involuntary smile that lasted only a few seconds.

I leave those who try to portray me as if I had disrespected our martyr by cherry-picking only those five seconds of this spiritual process, which lasted about five hours, to their own consciences.

On this occasion, I wish God's mercy upon all our martyrs, especially my fellow citizen from Milas, our martyr Emrah Kuran, and I extend my condolences to their grieving families and loved ones."
