The Paris 2024 Olympic Games officially began with an opening ceremony held yesterday. During the ceremony, which took place on the Seine River, 6,800 athletes paraded along a 6-kilometer route on 85 boats. The visuals and shows during the opening ceremony sparked reactions from many people. The performances displayed at the ceremony became the target of criticism on the grounds that they promoted LGBT propaganda and insulted religion by reenacting Leonardo da Vinci's painting "The Last Supper," which depicts the meal Jesus shared with his apostles, with a "drag queen" performance.
One of these reactions came from AKP MP Emre Çalışkan. In his speech at the parliament today, Çalışkan said the following:
"The whole world watched the opening of the Olympics. However, it is unclear whether this was an Olympic opening ceremony or a propaganda ceremony for all kinds of deviant movements such as LGBT, pedophilia, and Satanism. While a very significant portion of our society reacted to this perversion, we also saw those who looked at it with admiration and praised it."
In addition, the Catholic Church of France, French Member of the European Parliament Marion Maréchal, right-wing National Rally party MP Laure Lavalette, French lawyer Fabrice di Vizio, and Bishop Robert Barron of the Diocese of Winona-Rochester in the US state of Minnesota also expressed their reactions throughout the day.
