While the opposition has reacted to the notification of 'dismissal' proceedings against Lieutenant Ebru Eroğlu and Lieutenant İzzet Talip Akarsu, who performed a sword oath and chanted "We are the soldiers of Mustafa Kemal" following the official graduation ceremony at the Military Academy, messages of support are coming from the AK Party side.

AKP Bursa MP Mustafa Varank accused the lieutenants of 'indiscipline' while comparing them to soldiers who played a role in the July 15 coup attempt and were dismissed on charges of being 'FETÖ members'.

Varank used the following expressions in his post on his social media account:

"Being a former Military Academy student does not give anyone the freedom to be undisciplined or commit crimes! The 150 generals who martyred 251 of our fellow citizens on July 15 and were dismissed from our heroic army were also graduates of the Military Academy..."

WHAT HAPPENED?

During the Military Academy graduation ceremony held on August 30, it became a topic of discussion when the lieutenants chanted "We are the soldiers of Mustafa Kemal" and, after reciting the official oath in the presence of the protocol, crossed their swords to recite the traditional oath once the protocol had left the ceremony area.

Subsequently, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan stated regarding the issue, "Recently, some opportunists appeared at the graduation ceremony and drew swords. Who are you drawing these swords against? All necessary investigations regarding these individuals are being conducted, and those few self-ignorant people there will be cleared out."

At the end of the investigation, Regiment Senior Lieutenant İzzet Talip Akarsu and the class valedictorian Ebru Eroğlu, who received her diploma from President Tayyip Erdoğan, were referred to the High Disciplinary Board with a request for dismissal.
