The poster, prepared in the name of Mayor Hilmi Güler, featured the date of Atatürk's death, 1938, and an infinity symbol, while the phrase “We commemorate the founder of our Republic, Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatatürk, with respect, gratitude, and mercy” was included.

The municipality found the solution in applying black tape over the billboards. The act of applying black tape over the billboards and writing 'Atatürk' on it sparked further controversy.
