Statement from AKP's Efkan Ala on the reconciliation process: 'We must be wary of provocations'

Negotiations are ongoing in the second reconciliation process, which was architected by MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli and named 'Terror-Free Turkey' by the government. Most recently, the DEM Party Imrali Delegation visited AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan at the Presidential Palace.

AKP Deputy Chairman Efkan Ala, who was present alongside Erdoğan during the meeting, made statements regarding the reconciliation process.

Emphasizing that the process is progressing in a positive direction and stating that a solution is near, Ala used the expression, "God willing, this issue will be resolved in a short time." Arguing that the final result will be for the benefit of the entire society, Ala said, "A result that is in the favor of our 86.5 million people will be reached, and Turkey will move toward its goals with the brotherhood of 86.5 million." Stating that significant progress has been made in the process, Ala continued his remarks with the following words:

"It is moving on a very correct path. Exactly as we desire, this problem will be solved with a great opportunity, and a result that will be to the gain of 86.5 million will be reached. We are moving forward with confident steps here. There is no hesitation. Of course, while such major issues are being experienced in our region, our country, and the world, there may be some problems on the path to solving such an important issue. We must be wary of certain provocations. There may be some delays or accelerations, but there is no hesitation or problem regarding the direction. Every problem that arises is being solved through greater effort; we are solving them and continuing on our path."

WHAT IS THE STATUS OF THE COMMISSION REPORT?

Touching upon the work of the National Solidarity, Brotherhood, and Democracy Commission established in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) for the second reconciliation process, Ala stated that the commission has completed its task. Noting that the process has moved to the reporting stage, Ala continued his statement as follows:

"The commission has finished its work. Now it is working on the report. I hope that the report will also be announced to the public in the coming days without any problems there either. Even if there are accidents or problems along the way, these are discussed, debated, and solved. There is no problem in dialogue, communication, or addressing the issue. A problem-solving mechanism has been developed. The thing I want to underline here is that while such important problems are being solved, one should never take a step back when a road accident occurs or a problem arises at that moment. The issue should be pursued until it is brought to an end. Our citizens should both give their support and be at ease regarding this matter. A small problem or emerging hitches should not turn us back from our path. If such a possibility arises, there will be many who create hitches."
