AKP Spokesperson Ömer Çelik responded to the remarks by DEM Party Co-Chair Tülay Hatimoğulları that "HTS should not be supported by Turkey." Çelik stated, "These statements are the organization's arguments, they are memorized. In the picture that has emerged in Syria, the Kurds have gained the most," he said.
Çelik made statements following his party's MKYK meeting. The latest developments in Syria were on Çelik's agenda.
Responding to the criticisms directed at the AKP by the DEM Party regarding the AKP government's alleged support for HTS, Çelik said, "This is not a political sentence. There is no original will here. This is a proxy will; this argument is the organization's argument." Regarding the DEM Party, he said, "The organization they openly support is treated as if it were a human rights organization, as if it were the Canary Lovers Association. The characterizations directed at us by those who openly state they support a terrorist organization are merely a cover for their own stance." Reacting to claims that they oppose the deaths of Kurdish civilians, Çelik said, "Today, whenever any terrorist organization in Syria takes action against civilians, we are the first to oppose it."
Çelik stated, "Those who say these sentences do not have Kurds on their agenda. They only have the organization. Yet, brand new opportunities have emerged today. When we look at the activities of imperialism and Zionism, you expect a stance to emerge where one should support processes where Turks, Kurds, and Arabs join hands more strongly and protect their own prosperity and social integrity; however, for those doing this, it stands there as a tragic story."
"WE CONDEMN THE EXPRESSIONS DIRECTED AT BAHÇELİ AND OUR PRESIDENT"
Stating that there is no schedule for a meeting between the DEM Party Co-Chairs and the Imralı Delegation with Erdoğan, Çelik continued:
"I have clearly explained how our President took care of our Syrian brothers during his time as Prime Minister. Those who talk so much today were not even in the political arena back then. In the recent period, everyone has seen the foresight shown by Mr. Devlet within the framework of a Terror-Free Turkey and a terror-free region with his historic call. Now, the expressions these individuals use toward our President and Mr. Devlet Bahçeli are extremely immoral. This sentence needs to be repeated often: we condemn these expressions. Protecting their rights is our red line. Those who violate this were, until yesterday, expressing their support for our President's state will and Mr. Bahçeli's call regarding a terror-free Turkey and a terror-free region. Today, by saying 'I am looking out for the Kurds' while actually looking out for a terrorist organization, and targeting our President and Mr. Bahçeli with those sentences, is the greatest hostility toward Kurds. This red line should not have been violated. They have violated it. While imperialism and Zionism are plaguing the Kurds in the region, and while our President and Mr. Bahçeli have put forward a high-level approach and will, attacking our President and Mr. Bahçeli with these sentences is making a reservation on the side of imperialism."
