AKP-run municipality builds 'private' road for MHP council member's construction project
It is alleged that during his tenure as acting mayor, Giresun Municipality's MHP Council Member Hasan Yılmaz had a road built leading to his construction site. When the road proved unusable due to its steep incline, the Giresun Municipality stepped in again, implementing a zoning change on university land designated for a mosque to open a different road.

According to allegations, Hasan Yılmaz, an MHP Council Member and Deputy Mayor of the AKP-run Giresun Municipality, served as acting mayor for a short period three years ago while AKP Mayor Aytekin Şenlikoğlu was out of the city.
According to a report by İsmail Akduman from Sözcü; during this period, Yılmaz had a road opened by implementing a zoning change to facilitate access to his construction projects in the Gaziler Neighborhood, located in the upper part of the city center. The cost of the road Yılmaz had opened reached 1.5 million TL, but the road was unusable due to its steep incline.
URBAN FOREST USED AS AN EXCUSE
Following this, the AKP-run municipality requested a portion of the land allocated for a mosque from Giresun University to build a road, claiming that an Urban Forest would be constructed in an area known as Gaziler Hill, which is located above the MHP member's construction sites.
UNIVERSITY SAID “NO”
Although the University Board of Directors did not accept this request, the municipality passed the zoning change decision through the municipal council.
The road, which began construction two months ago, was opened for use at the beginning of this month. Mustafa Başer, President of the Giresun University Mosque Construction and Maintenance Association, stated that the estimated cost of the mosque is 11 million 500 thousand liras and that an area of 6 thousand 200 square meters was allocated to their association by the university.
“A PRIVATE ROAD WAS OPENED”
Başer said, “MHP council member Hasan Yılmaz had a road opened for the construction projects he carried out above the mosque. Because this road, which was built through zoning, was very steep, it could not be used. Upon this, the Giresun Municipality made an unlawful zoning change on the mosque land belonging to our association, using the urban forest as an excuse, to open another road. However, the university senate did not accept this zoning application. A private road was opened for an individual. We are against this.”
Mustafa Başer stated that approximately 1.5 decares of the mosque land were usurped due to the new road opened by the municipality. He noted that they have filed a complaint with CİMER and initiated a lawsuit against the municipality.
