AKP-run municipality's price hikes brought to IMM Assembly: Here is your inconsistency

Price hikes in public transportation became a subject of debate at the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Assembly. CHP Group Spokesperson Gencay Özcan highlighted the inconsistency in the AKP's reaction to 'price hikes' by using the example of the Kocaeli Municipality.

Price hike debates dominated the agenda at the IMM Assembly meeting.

Criticizing the statements made by AKP members claiming that 'there is no justification for a transportation price hike in Istanbul,' CHP Group Spokesperson Gencay Özcan pointed out an important issue with the example he provided.

Comparing the public transportation price hikes implemented by the Kocaeli and Istanbul municipalities, Özcan stated that the full ticket prices in the AKP-run Kocaeli Municipality and the CHP-run Istanbul Municipality are the same, pointing out that this is an inconsistency.

"IMM full ticket: 35 TL

Kocaeli Municipality full ticket: 35 TL

The AKP was saying there is no justification for a transportation price hike in Istanbul!

Then why is the AKP-run Kocaeli Municipality raising prices? Here is your inconsistency!

Moreover, the Kocaeli Municipality carries 500 thousand passengers a day. The IMM carries 9 million passengers."
