AKP's Yıldız Konal Süslü criticizes 'Aşk-ı Memnu': It negatively affected family relationships

The Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM) Commission on School Incidents and Digital Risks in Şanlıurfa and Kahramanmaraş convened under the chairmanship of AKP Tokat Deputy Yusuf Beyazıt. The social impact of television series was discussed at the meeting, which was attended by RTÜK representatives and production companies such as Miray Yapım, Ay Yapım, and Köprü Film.

Taking the floor at the meeting, AKP İstanbul Deputy Yıldız Konal Süslü criticized the series "Aşk-ı Memnu," which was adapted from the work of Halid Ziya Uşaklıgil, in terms of its impact on family relationships.

"Do you have an assessment of what kind of positive contribution you have made to the youth or the family? For example, let me tell you what I encountered. Even though the series 'Aşk-ı Memnu' was inspired by an old book, for a while, people were afraid to leave their spouses alone with their nephews due to the twisted relationships depicted within the family."

Following her criticisms, Süslü made positive remarks regarding the series "Gönül Dağı," which is broadcast on TRT 1. Addressing Köprü Film representative Ferhat Eşsiz, Süslü stated that the series "deals with current issues through our own values and codes" and thanked the team.

Meltem Vargı, Deputy General Manager of Operations at Ay Yapım, responded to Süslü's criticisms regarding the series "Aşk-ı Memnu" and "Çukur." Vargı reminded the commission that these productions were filmed years ago and noted that both positive and negative characters were featured in them.

Vargı argued that in the series, "the good win and the bad lose," and stated that negative elements were not portrayed in a positive light. Expressing that they value the commission's views, Vargı said that these assessments would be taken into account in future productions.
