Former AKP deputy Şamil Tayyar, who draws attention with his criticisms of his own party, made statements regarding the recent increase in investigations and the current agenda during a live broadcast.
Speaking on TGRT Haber, Tayyar pointed to the growing public reaction regarding justice, the judiciary, and legal issues in recent times, stating that this would have political consequences.
REACTION TO VEDAT MİLOR
"I honestly think that the measure, the balance, and the dosage are starting to get out of hand here," said Tayyar, and regarding the investigation process initiated against Vedat Milor, he stated: "Political wisdom should have been involved. A citizen might not evaluate this impartially and could see it as a political move."
Tayyar stated that the investigations and lawsuits launched against Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Mayor and CHP presidential candidate hopeful Ekrem İmamoğlu could have the opposite effect on his political future, noting the following:
"I think that as the number of these files increases, the probability of İmamoğlu's candidacy will gradually increase."
Tayyar summarized his points as follows:
"THE NUMBER OF THOSE REACTING TO THE JUDICIARY IS INCREASING"
Tayyar emphasized that he is against the judiciary becoming a decisive actor in politics and highlighted that public reaction is growing. Stating that according to public opinion polls, the biggest problem after the economy is the justice and legal system, Tayyar noted that this situation has been rising rapidly over the last two months.
"IT WILL HAVE A POLITICAL REPERCUSSION"
Expressing that criticisms of the judiciary will have political consequences, Tayyar drew attention to the investigations launched into CHP-run municipalities and said that a comparison is being made: "Are similar mistakes never made in MHP or AKP-run municipalities? Why are steps taken only against a certain segment?"
"LAWSUITS AGAINST İMAMOĞLU STRENGTHEN HIS POLITICS"
Making a striking assessment regarding the potential effects of the increasing legal processes against İmamoğlu on his political future, Tayyar suggested that this situation could increase his chances of candidacy. Stating, "Normally, criticisms regarding transportation, traffic, and services in Istanbul should come to the fore, but the investigations and lawsuits launched completely change the agenda," he noted that this strategy could backfire.
"POLITICS IS LIKE CATCHING A SNAKE"
Stating that one should be “more careful, cautious, and perhaps not pursue some things…”, Tayyar recounted a snake-catching story he heard from Hüseyin Çelik years ago. “If you pull a snake entering a hole too hard, it will snap due to the tension; half will remain in your hand, and half will escape into the hole,” said Tayyar, adding, “You have to let it go a little. When it realizes it has been released, it will lunge forward, and you will pull it quickly. You pull and then pause, and that is how you get the snake out.”
