AKP Spokesperson Çelik: The attack carried out by the US and Israel against our neighbor Iran is unlawful

AKP Spokesperson Ömer Çelik held a press conference while the AK Party Central Decision and Executive Board (MKYK) was in session, chaired by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. Çelik stated that the MKYK meeting addressed the developments in Iran and the current status of parliamentary work, and that President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan had conducted a comprehensive assessment regarding the developments occurring in Iran.

Stating that the attack on Iran at this point in time has no legitimacy, Çelik said, "The attack carried out by the US and Israel against our neighbor Iran is unlawful, contrary to international law, unjust, and lacks legal legitimacy."

Moreover, the fact that such an attack was carried out while negotiations regarding nuclear issues were ongoing shows that we have entered a period where diplomacy and the strategy of producing solutions by establishing a table have been completely destroyed. Diplomacy cannot be a tactical cover or a stalling tactic for an attack that has already been decided upon.

That is why this attack took place despite the table being set. Our President, by putting forth intense energy, especially regarding the establishment of such a table, held meetings with President Trump, President Pezeshkian, and other parties. In essence, the fact that such an attack occurred while the table was working is a highly erroneous, unjust, and unlawful initiative that will lead to extremely troublesome consequences," he expressed.

Noting that many high-level military and political figures, including the Supreme Leader, as well as civilians, lost their lives in Iran as a result of the attack carried out by the US and Israel, Çelik offered his condolences to the Iranian people for these losses.

"A country's regime cannot be used as a pretext for attacking it"

Referring to the meeting between President Erdoğan and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, AK Party Spokesperson Çelik said, "The message given by our President is that, after setting out the principles regarding Iran, the conflict must stop as soon as possible and, within this framework, solutions must be sought at the table again. There is no legal basis for such interventions against a sovereign country, against a UN member country. These cannot be excused in any way. Attacking the territorial integrity, state apparatus, and leaders of a sovereign UN member country shows that we have moved to a completely different stage in terms of the international order, which means the disappearance of this order. Especially, a country's regime cannot be used as a pretext for attacking it. Using a country's regime as an excuse means that anyone who wishes can invent a pretext and take action to intervene in any country they choose based on highly subjective criteria. Therefore, it has been seen in various country examples how great disasters issues like regime change lead to, and insisting on repeating this mistake, while talking about ending wars, has been a highly erroneous approach that activates a war mechanic that will encompass the entire region and even spill over to a global level," he declared.

"No one has the right to impose regime change on any country"

Emphasizing that targeting a country's total state architecture, in addition to its military capacity, actually means aiming for major chaos, Çelik said, "Moving to collapse a country's state architecture, or as Netanyahu's cabinet members have expressed, trying to collapse that state architecture by calling that society to revolt or inciting civil war within that society, is a trigger for much greater disasters. In essence, this is a crime in itself. Therefore, no one has the right to impose regime change on any country in any way. Targeting the state architecture of those countries will mean inviting major disasters."

Çelik added that state units are making the necessary preparations in full coordination in the event that Turkey faces a large wave of migration from the Iranian border.

"Certain waves that will affect the entire global economy are expected"

Touching upon the economic conditions expected to have a global impact following the attacks carried out by the US and Israel against Iran, AK Party Spokesperson Çelik said, "Certain waves that will affect the entire global economy are expected. In this context, there may be temporary effects on our economy as well. The economy is another topic. Our economy has faced many shocks in the past. In this respect, our economic management is experienced in managing crises."

When asked about CHP Chairman Özgür Özel's remarks that "the AK Party does not criticize enough the new world order desires based on the aggression of the US and Israel," Çelik replied, "It is not understood what Mr. Özel says regarding foreign policy. We have a political tradition. Past CHP chairmen have also adhered to this policy. Today, we are surrounded by a ring of fire. If a call for political unity and solidarity is to be made, today is the day to say it. Past CHP chairmen have made very sensible statements. It would be beneficial for the CHP if Özgür Özel also makes more sensible, more equitable statements that analyze the situation around us well."
