AKP's Birinci reacts to those calling for 'national mourning' for our martyrs: Faithless, senseless, ignorant
AKP lawyer Mücahit Birinci responded to calls for national mourning following the martyrdom of 20 soldiers in a military cargo plane crash, stating, "What are you mourning for, you faithless, senseless people!"

Twenty soldiers were martyred after a Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) military cargo plane traveling from Azerbaijan to Turkey crashed on the Georgia-Azerbaijan border.
CHP Chairman Özgür Özel had called on AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to use his presidential authority to declare 3 days of national mourning.
As calls for a national day of mourning continued across the country, former AKP MKYK member Mücahit Birinci targeted these calls.
Birinci, who ended his party membership of his own accord while his expulsion from the AKP was on the agenda, used the following expressions in his post:
"We are teaching the ignorant as if they were children that the rank of martyrdom is not a situation to be commemorated with 'mourning.'
It is natural to be saddened, to weep, and to embrace the memory of a martyr. Our Prophet also shed tears for his companions who were martyred. However, mourning is a different matter. Mourning contains despair within it.
In Islamic creed, the rank of martyrdom is as honorable as the rank of the companions. According to our faith, martyrdom is, in a sense, a 'festival' of the soul.
What are you mourning for, you faithless, senseless people!"
