According to the motion submitted by the AKP Group, while it is envisioned that cats collected from the streets and rehabilitated in shelters will be released back onto the streets, dogs will remain in the shelters.
Taking the floor on the motion, AKP Amasya Deputy Hasan Çilez said, "Let us first state our purpose for the 4th article so that the purpose of our motion can be understood.
Now, our goal here is to address the increasing attacks and diseases that have reached an uncontrollable point due to the countless animal population, which could turn into a health problem. For this reason, instead of the currently applied catch-neuter-release method, a catch-neuter-keep and adopt model is being implemented here.
Also, in this proposal of ours, it is suggested that dogs remain in these shelters until they are adopted.
There are other animals as well; there are changes regarding other animals made by our municipalities or other organizations that establish animal shelters.
For example, we envision that when a cat is rehabilitated, it should be able to be released back into nature. We all know the problem regarding dogs here," he said.
