New developments have emerged regarding irregularities detected during an internal audit at the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (TCMB) as part of a wide-ranging investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.
While a public loss exceeding 100 million TL was identified at the Interbank Card Center (BKM), where the bank is a major shareholder, 8 people, including former Central Bank Deputy Governor Emrah Şener, were arrested.
Şener's signature appears on 200 lira banknotes.
SHARP REACTION FROM BAŞARIR
CHP Group Deputy Chair Ali Mahir Başarır made a statement following the arrest and addressed AKP Chairman and President Erdoğan, saying, "Have some shame."
HERE ARE BAŞARIR'S REMARKS:
"Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who accuses our mayors!
Look! The corruption is here!
The person whose signature is on the 200 TL note is currently under arrest for fraud!
Who is this? The former Central Bank deputy governor you appointed!
This man defrauded the bank, yet you want to smear my mayors.
Have some shame!"
