Ali Mahir Başarır: PhD diploma of Mutta, appointed to the YSK, is controversial

CHP Group Deputy Chairman and Mersin Deputy Ali Mahir Başarır argued in a post on his social media account that the diploma of Serdar Mutta, who was appointed as the head of the YSK, is "controversial."

Başarır used the following expressions in his post:

"Those who intend to use the cancellation of the diploma our presidential candidate Ekrem İmamoğlu received via transfer from Cyprus to block his candidacy have chosen a person with a controversial diploma to head the YSK. Serdar Mutta, one of the YSK members, will now sit in the presidential chair.

Why is his diploma controversial? Mutta received his PhD education from Cyprus.

The Council of Higher Education (YÖK) regulation on foreign PhD equivalence requires the applicant to have been present in the relevant country for at least 200 days during their education.

Looking at his resume on the official YSK website, it is seen that Mutta has been serving continuously since 1995.

Either Mutta was granted special favor, or Mutta is a magician who can be in two countries at the same time! Whichever it is, when İmamoğlu's candidacy application comes before him tomorrow, how will Serdar Mutta be trusted in a decision that hides behind the justification of 'diploma cancellation'?"
