Ali Yerlikaya announces new practice regarding the return of Syrians: 'We call this the 3rd eye...'

Following the overthrow of the Bashar al-Assad regime in Syria, some of the Syrians in Turkey have begun to return to their country.

Minister of Interior Ali Yerlikaya made statements regarding the return process of Syrians on TGRT Haber.

Stating that a new practice called 'pioneer migrant' has been introduced regarding the return of Syrians, Yerlikaya reported that it was presented to AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan at the Cabinet Meeting and that Erdoğan said, "This is a very correct thing."

According to the 'pioneer migrant' practice, one person determined from the family will be granted permission to exit and enter 3 times, effective from July 1. The purpose of the practice is for someone to go and make preparations before the family returns.

Yerlikaya shared the details as follows:

DOCUMENT WILL BE GIVEN WITH 3-TIME PERMISSION

'Let someone go and make preparations before they go.' Even when a civil servant is appointed, they go, if there is no housing, they rent a place, make their preparations, load the truck, and move. Our President said, 'Do this immediately.' We call this 'pioneer migrant.' The head of the family, or if they cannot go, a person determined by the family... Starting from July 1, we will allow them to exit and enter 3 times through our Çobanbey gate in Kilis or the Zeytindalı gate in Hatay. They will exit and come back. They will apply through our web address, and we will give them a document: An exit-entry document for the other side.

When exiting the gate, a final fingerprint check is performed, their ID is taken from them, and we say, 'Safe travels.' While this is being done, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees has an office there. After we complete all the processes, there is a 'Voluntary Return Form.' In front of the camera, in their own language, they say, 'I am voluntary, I am going here.' They are interviewed in front of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, etc. We call this the '3rd eye.' The 3rd eye asks, 'Are you really going voluntarily?'
