Ali Yerlikaya sidelines figures close to Süleyman Soylu
The AFAD provincial directors of 12 cities, who were reportedly close to Süleyman Soylu, have been dismissed from the Ministry of Interior. While Minister Ali Yerlikaya reassigned many individuals, he also appointed new AFAD directors to 29 cities.

New appointments and dismissals have been made at the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), which operates under the Ministry of Interior.
Minister of Interior Ali Yerlikaya dismissed several individuals who had been brought into key positions at AFAD during the Süleyman Soylu era, while also changing the duty stations of others.
According to a report by BirGün, based on the dismissal and appointment decisions dated July 17 signed by Ali Yerlikaya, the AFAD Provincial Directors of 12 cities, including Istanbul, were dismissed. It was observed that the dismissed directors were transferred to the "researcher" staff.
Within the institution, this reassignment is described as "being sidelined," and it was noted that the majority of the dismissed provincial directors had been appointed by Soylu.

NEW APPOINTMENTS IN 29 CITIES
Yerlikaya appointed new individuals to the AFAD Provincial Directorates of Adana, Adıyaman, Ağrı, Balıkesir, Bartın, Batman, Bayburt, Bingöl, Bolu, Burdur, Hatay, Gümüşhane, Iğdır, Isparta, Karabük, Kastamonu, Kayseri, Konya, Kütahya, Muğla, Muş, Nevşehir, Ordu, Osmaniye, Samsun, Sinop, Tekirdağ, Tokat, and Trabzon.
While some directors were reassigned to different locations, new individuals were appointed to replace those who were dismissed. Notable changes also occurred in the cities most affected by the earthquake disaster on February 6, 2023.
The changes made in the earthquake-stricken cities are as follows:
Adıyaman AFAD Provincial Director İshak Cindioğlu was appointed as the Muğla Provincial Director. Adıyaman AFAD Deputy Provincial Director Tuncer Şeyda became the Provincial Director.
Maraş Deputy AFAD Provincial Director Ümit Doğan was appointed to Bolu.
Kütahya AFAD Provincial Director Nurettin Havutçu was made the Adana AFAD Provincial Director.
Hatay AFAD Director Ali İhsan Körpeş became the AFAD Provincial Director of Konya, which is also the hometown of Ali Yerlikaya. Bolu AFAD Provincial Director Taner Bayındır was appointed to Hatay.
Adana AFAD Provincial Director Gültekin Genç was assigned as the Kayseri AFAD Provincial Director.
ISTANBUL HAS NO DIRECTOR
In Istanbul, where experts persistently warn of an earthquake risk, the AFAD Provincial Directorate seat remains vacant. No appointment was made to replace AFAD Provincial Director Ercan Akar following his dismissal.
In Isparta, Mahmut Zadeoğlu, who was on the teaching staff at the Provincial Directorate of National Education, was made the city's AFAD Provincial Director.
WAREHOUSE OFFICER
New deputy directors were appointed to 36 cities. In Bingöl, Sedat Doğan, who was serving as a warehouse officer at the AFAD Directorate, was made the Deputy AFAD Provincial Director of Bingöl.
