All demonstrations in the city suspended for 5 days

The Van Governor's Office has banned all demonstrations and events in the city between October 9 and 13, 2024. The statement indicated that the bans were implemented for the purposes of counter-terrorism, public safety, and maintaining order. No form of protest or meeting will be permitted.

The Van Governor's Office has announced that it has banned certain demonstrations and events in the city for a period of 5 days.

In the statement issued by the Van Governor's Office, it was stated: "In order to prevent actions and attacks that are assessed to directly and clearly constitute the conditions for limitation and prohibition stipulated in our Constitution and laws, to ensure the life and property security of our citizens, to thwart the plans of terrorist organizations, and in this context, to ensure national security, protect public order and general health, prevent the commission of crimes, ensure the continuation of fundamental rights and freedoms as well as the rights and freedoms of others and general public order, and prevent the spread of acts of violence; within the geographical boundaries of Van province, between 09.10.2024 and 13.10.2024, for a period of 5 days, excluding those deemed appropriate by the Governor's Office and District Governor's Offices, activities such as protest marches, open-air meetings and indoor meetings, press statements, sit-ins and surveys, setting up/opening tents and stands, organizing signature campaigns, distributing leaflets, brochures and flyers, and all kinds of protest actions to be organized in accordance with the provisions of the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations No. 2911 have been prohibited in accordance with the relevant articles of the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations No. 2911 and the Provincial Administration Law No. 5442. It has been decided not to allow the entry and exit to our province and districts, the individual or collective departure from these places, and the use of our province's routes by those coming from other provinces for the aforementioned places, of individuals/groups likely to participate in unlawful actions/events, in order to prevent participation in any kind of unlawful action or event, either individually or collectively, from our districts or surrounding provinces, or by using our province's routes between the specified dates, in accordance with the provisions of Article 11, paragraph (c) of the Provincial Administration Law No. 5442."
