Beyoğlu Mayor İnan Güney stated that the allegations of an operation against the municipality are baseless, noting that 'following the arrest of an individual who is not a municipal employee and who has previously provided consultancy to the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization as well as many AKP-run municipalities, a smear campaign is being attempted against both himself and the municipality.'
İnan Güney stated that the allegations against the municipality have no legal basis, noting that claims such as 'an operation will be conducted against Beyoğlu Municipality' are being intentionally spread. Emphasizing that he will use his legal rights to the fullest against such attempts to mislead the public, Güney said, 'I came to office with the favor of the people of Beyoğlu, and to this day, there is no action I have taken for which I cannot account.'
Stating that they have been rebuilding populist municipalism in Beyoğlu since taking over the administration, Güney expressed that their use of public resources for the benefit of the people has caused discomfort in some circles.
'Our projects such as Retirement Homes, Worker Houses, nutrition packages for students, water dispensers, shuttle services, and the Barrier-Free Taxi are drawing reactions from those who do not want public resources to be used in favor of the public.'
Stating that smear campaigns against him will not find any traction among the people of Beyoğlu, Güney said, 'Everyone who knows me knows that I am a mayor committed to the indivisible integrity of the homeland and loyal to law and democracy. I am against all forms of terror and violence, and this is known by everyone. No one can dare to associate me with such elements.'
Emphasizing that he will continue to serve Beyoğlu, İnan Güney recalled the saying, 'Stand upright, and the crooked will find their own trouble,' and added, 'I leave the judgment of these cheap smear attempts against me to the people of Beyoğlu and the conscience of the public.'
