Following allegations that animals were being tortured by staff and veterinarians at the Mamak Municipality Stray Animal Rehabilitation Center Temporary Care Home, animal lovers flocked to the area where the shelter is located. After the authorities' statement, the dogs were adopted by volunteer animal lovers.
"THEY DIED BY EATING EACH OTHER"
A citizen named Ayça Salgara stated that they arrived following a tip-off, saying, "We were not allowed inside when we arrived. They said those inside could not be let out because the key was lost. We went around to the back to see if there was an open door. Of course, all the doors were locked, but we went around to the back without knowing what to expect.
However, we saw that the animals had died while hanging from the fences. The animal had remained hanging from the fence and died. Then, right next to the other fence, at least 6-7 dogs had died by tearing each other apart.
They likely died by eating each other out of hunger there. When we went a little further and looked behind the wall, there was not a drop of water or a morsel of food in front of the animals, and the dead were eating them," she said.
STATEMENT FROM THE GOVERNOR'S OFFICE
