In Kayseri, Öznur Ö., who was tried on allegations of making her three-year-old son, Y.T., smoke cigarettes and administering drugs to him, was sentenced to a total of 2 years and 4 months in prison for the crimes of 'using children in the production of obscene publications' and 'violation of obligations arising from family law.' The court stated that the mother had subjected her child to physical and emotional abuse and explained the reasoning for the sentence.
Öznur Ö. and Turgut Ö. were married under a religious ceremony in 2017 and had a child a year later. After Turgut Ö. went to England to work, Öznur Ö. had registered her son under someone else's name. While abroad, Turgut Ö. received information that Öznur Ö. was making their son smoke cigarettes and administering drugs to him. After watching videos recording this situation, Turgut Ö. reported the matter to the police. The police detained Öznur Ö. in Kayseri, and she was subsequently arrested. However, Öznur Ö. was later released.
In court, Öznur Ö. denied the accusations, claiming that the videos were spread on the internet by her ex-husband and that she had threatened suicide because of this. She also stated that she had filmed a fake video by putting lentils into medicine boxes.
The court sentenced Öznur Ö. to 1 year and 11 months in prison for the crime of 'using children in the production of obscene publications' and 5 months in prison for 'violation of obligations arising from family law.' Additionally, a fine of 2 thousand 50 TL was imposed. The court applied a good conduct reduction, taking into account the defendant's remorseful behavior during the trial process and the fact that she had not been previously convicted of an intentional crime.
