Groups gathered following an announcement on social media by the organization "Jewish Voice for Peace" (JVP) and occupied the main concourse of New York's largest train station, Grand Central.
Hundreds of Jewish Americans wearing black t-shirts chanted hymns while carrying signs that read, "Palestine must be free", "Ceasefire now", "Take over Grand Central to demand an immediate ceasefire", "Be with us on the right side of history".
On the social media platforms of the Jewish civil society organizations JVP and IfNotNow, announcements were made simultaneously with the protest stating, "Already 7 thousand Palestinians are dead and more than a million have been displaced. Israeli leaders continue to openly use genocidal rhetoric."
During the protest organized to demand an "immediate ceasefire" for Gaza, Jewish organization members chanted, "We do not allow genocide to be committed in our name", "Ceasefire now".
In a post on the X platform, the IfNotNow group also stated, "As the Israeli government starves, bombs, and occupies the people of Gaza in the dark, the actions we take in the coming days and weeks will define our lives."
LATEST SITUATION IN GAZA
Due to Israel's intense attacks on the blockaded Gaza Strip, landline, mobile phone, and internet communication services in the region have been completely cut off.
The Israeli army announced that it is increasing its airstrikes and will expand its ground operations. Al-Shifa Hospital, the largest health facility in Gaza where thousands of wounded and civilians are located, has also been targeted by the Israeli army.
