Android phones warned of earthquake 30 seconds in advance

A 6.1 magnitude earthquake that occurred in the Sındırgı district of Balıkesir was felt over a wide area in the Marmara and Aegean regions. Following the earthquake, Android phones drew attention by warning users 30 seconds in advance.

A severe 6.1 magnitude earthquake occurred in the Sındırgı district of Balıkesir. The earthquake took place at 19:53 and occurred at a depth of approximately 11 kilometers. According to AFAD data, the tremor was also felt in many provinces such as Istanbul, Izmir, Bursa, Aydın, Yalova, Eskişehir, and Ankara.

While panic broke out among citizens during the earthquake, attempts were made to exit buildings in some regions. Especially in large cities, congestion was observed in public transport vehicles immediately after the earthquake, and some workplaces directed their employees to safe areas.

On social media, it was shared that many users were aware of the earthquake 30 seconds in advance thanks to the earthquake warning system integrated into Android phones. According to user experiences, the system provided a warning time ranging from 10 to 30 seconds, depending on the magnitude of the earthquake and the user's distance from the epicenter. 

HOW TO TURN ON THE EARTHQUAKE WARNING SYSTEM ON ANDROID PHONES?

Android users can follow these steps to activate the earthquake warning system on their devices:

Go to the Settings menu.

Click on the "Location" and then the "Location Services" tab.

Find and open the "Earthquake Alerts" option.

You can activate the system by turning on the toggle switch here.

Thanks to these settings, in the event of a possible earthquake, Android devices send warnings seconds in advance, preparing the user.

iPhone users can also activate earthquake warning notifications with these steps:

Go to the "Notifications" tab from the Settings menu.

Scroll to the bottom of the page and activate the "Emergency Alerts" option.

If you want to turn off the warning system, you can disable it by tapping the same button again.
