Following a criminal complaint by the Ministry of National Education (MEB), the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has launched an investigation into 168 individuals who signed the declaration titled "We defend secularism together." The investigation, based on the charge of "inciting the public to hatred and hostility," concerns actions evaluated under the crimes of "publicly degrading the State and Government of the Republic of Turkey" and "inciting the public to hatred and hostility" due to expressions in the declaration such as "provocation by a reactionary minority" and "we reject sharia-based impositions."
