MESAM President Recep Ergül stated that the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality provides natural gas, water bill, and food assistance to Turkish Musical Work Owners Professional Union (MESAM) members living in Ankara who are in need, and noted that Ankara is the only municipality that pays regular royalties.
Ankara Metropolitan Mayor Mansur Yavaş also expressed that, both as a legal professional and by contributing to our intangible cultural heritage, they are sensitive about royalties to ensure that works are passed on to future generations.
GREAT INTEREST IN MANSUR YAVAŞ
The event, hosted by the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality yesterday, was attended by MESAM President Recep Ergül, Vice President and former Minister of Labor and Social Security Mustafa Kul, board members, and approximately four hundred MESAM members, including artists such as Musa Eroğlu, Mehmet Seske, and Kadir İpek.
Those who lost their lives in the February 6 earthquakes were also remembered during the night. A video about the earthquake prepared by MESAM moved the attendees. Ankara Metropolitan Mayor Mansur Yavaş, who hosted the event, received great interest from MESAM members and artists.
THE ONLY MUNICIPALITY THAT PAYS REGULAR ROYALTIES
Stating that the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality is the only municipality that pays regular royalties, MESAM President Recep Ergül said in his speech that they are not on any side of politics.
Recep Ergül, stating that MESAM is the only Turkish institution represented in 182 countries and is the largest professional union with 14 thousand members, reminded that the current administration was elected with a large majority of votes at the 17th Ordinary General Assembly held on December 14.
“WE WILL IMPLEMENT THE ANKARA MODEL ACROSS THE ENTIRE COUNTRY”
Stating that they only have a licensing protocol with the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality out of 1,394 municipalities in Turkey, Recep Ergül said, “Immediately after our meeting with our Mayor Mansur Yavaş last year, they took action. A model was put forward that includes concert licensing and supporting our artists living in Ankara. Our goal is to implement this model in all our provinces. Our Mayor Mansur Yavaş has pioneered this. I hope we will continue it.”
Ergül continued his words as follows;
“We have approximately one thousand two hundred members in Ankara. The host of this program is Ankara Metropolitan Mayor Mansur Yavaş. During the pandemic, the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality was the institution that supported musicians and artists the most. We were in the earthquake zone for 11 days during the February 6 earthquakes. The institution we encountered the most was the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality. We thank Mr. Mansur Yavaş for supporting art and artists.”
"WE PAY ROYALTIES FOR ALL OUR CONCERTS"
Mayor Mansur Yavaş, in his speech, congratulated the MESAM administration and President Ergül for their successful work and said that they would continue to cooperate with MESAM.
Stating that MESAM is particularly successful in copyright, Mansur Yavaş said, “We also pay our royalties for all our concerts. Both as a legal professional and to contribute to our intangible cultural heritage. So that it can be passed on to future generations. Hopefully, it will. Today, it is not lost because it is registered in the system. However, these works were brought to Turkey by circulating throughout Anatolia” he said.

While artist Musa Eroğlu left his mark on the night with the beautiful folk songs he performed, artists Mehmet Seske, Nurullah Akçayır, Erhan Yılmaz, Ali Demirhan, Ferhat Durmuş, former Minister and MESAM Vice President Mustafa Kul, and many other artists took the stage.
