Ankara Metropolitan Municipality welcomes back Lieutenant Deniz Demirtaş after his second dismissal from the TSK

Deniz Demirtaş, one of the five lieutenants who chanted "We are the soldiers of Mustafa Kemal" and recited the Officer's Oath with their peers during the Military Academy graduation ceremony on August 30, 2024, has had his ties to the military severed once again. Demirtaş, who had previously been able to return to the TSK following an annulment decision by the Ankara 21st Administrative Court, had left his position at the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality (ABB) during that process to wear his uniform again.

The Ministry of National Defense appealed the initial court decision, moving the case to the appellate stage. After the Ankara Regional Administrative Court issued a stay of execution, Deniz Demirtaş was dismissed for a second time, ending his service in the TSK to which he had returned in March. The final outcome of the case is expected to be determined in the coming months.

It was previously known that among the other lieutenants dismissed at the same ceremony, the class valedictorian Ebru Eroğlu had begun working at a holding company in the private sector, while the remaining four lieutenants were employed at the ABB alongside Demirtaş. Demirtaş was informed that he could return to his position at the municipality, which he had left due to his return to the TSK, following the conclusion of the court process. It was stated that Ankara Metropolitan Mayor Mansur Yavaş supports Demirtaş's return to his post.

Deniz Demirtaş had resigned from the municipality to return to his commission as an officer, but following his second dismissal from the military, he has gained the right to continue working at the ABB.
